Designed with Menka Desai-Crawford, an architect turned artist who paints designs in brilliant colors onto paper, and often adorns the artwork with embroidery, beads, and other dimensional objects.

Menka painted two images of adorable toucans, that will eventually become a part of a larger mosaic that works as either individual pieces or one big piece as part of Mensa's personal work. You can already see some of the other birds on her Instagram. For our collaboration we used two connecting panels as the front and back of the notebook cover's design. The thread, bookcloth, and endsheet colors echo tones from the cover illustration, altogether making for a vibrant design.

Fray level: High

Most Dapper Notes covers are made using fabric, which naturally frays with use. Each material behaves differently, and this meter will help you gauge how much fraying to expect from your notebook. Read more about fabric covers

Taking flight

Menka's toucan series is the perfect fit for my home where birds can be found tweeting all day. My friend Jen Reyes came up with the very fitting name Danza del Cielo: sky dance.

An optional interactive cover

For our notebook collaboration, we wanted to offer a beading experience similar to Menka's art process, and created an optional add-on in the form of a glass beading kit, sold separately. Inside each kit are four colors of delicate glass Miyuki delica beads, some of the finest beads in the world. There are plenty of beads for a notebook cover beading project, along with delicate DMC beading needles, a threader, and five DMC threads.
